Ever since Kobe signed with Nike in 2003, the swoosh nike shoes has entrenched themselves in Los Angeles. Nike was already here, of course, what with Niketowns and countless outlet stores across the city, but Kobe coming on board really made for a match made in sneaker heaven. There was the Montalban Theater that held events for not only Mamba but for other Nike events including Manny Pacquiao appearances when he was relevant and the return of the Nike Mag in 2011. If you ve ever been to Staples Center the past few years, you ll know that no trip is complete without a trek to the Nike Vault right outside the arena. From Venice Beach to the Museum of Contemporary Art to the Forum, Nike, Kobe, and Los Angeles just made sense.
The Kobe/Nike connection could also be felt on the court, as the list of players who wore Mamba s signature shoes through the years reads like who s who of noteworthy Lakers of the recent past. Derek Fisher, Trevor Ariza, Ron Artest/Metta World Peace, Lamar Odom, Pau Gasol all wore Kobes at some point, followed by the post-championship era with guys like Steve Nash, Steve Blake and Nick Young all repping for Mamba. Last season, the up and comers like D Angelo Russell and nike air max Jordan Clarkson alternated between Kobes and Jordans, but their preference (?) was to wear their superstar teammate s kicks.
Another day, another Nike LeBron 11 sighting not on the feet of LeBron James. As the great ( silly ) sneaker scandal of our time continues, more and more NBA players are starting to rock their pair as new colorways hit the market and the first set of NIKEiD pairs arrive. To play nike roshe devil s advocate, it does make you wonder if it matters whether LeBron wears the 11 or not if other players rock new colorways on the court that LeBron wouldn t have been able to wear anyway, like the "Gamma Blue" colorway that Wilson Chandler rocked last night against the Oklahoma City Thunder.Nike athlete and NBA rookie Buddy Hield of the New Orleans Pelicans has been given his own PE colorway of the Nike Kobe A.D.
Throwback Thursday: NCAA Kicks ? is a continuing feature taking a look back at the kicks of a generation ago on the feet of some of college hoops top players at some of college hoops most powerful programs. We ve shown you the "Lethal Weapon 3" era at Georgia Tech and the? Converse Voltage . Today we take a quick look at the first ever Nike Shox nike huarache Basketball shoe.In 2000 Nike unveiled its Shox technology into its basketball lineup with the Shox BB4 . Shox cushioning had been two decades in the making all while Nike was revolutionizing the footwear industry with its Air technology. The world would get ITS best view of this silhouette at the same time Frédéric Weis got HIS best view of its sole when Vince Carter jumped over finishing off one of his most famous dunks in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
During the 2000-2001 NCAA basketball season we got our first look at the BB4 in a variety of University TB colorways. Premiere Nike teams like Duke , Kentucky and Michigan State were outfitted with BB4 s while the TB treatment to this silhouette allowed for it to be universal around the college hoops landscape. Teams like Stanford , Washington Gonzaga and Syracuse as well as former Nike schools Indiana and Maryland were also part of the BB4 family.Remember when Indiana was a Nike school for 10 minutes? In 2002 Tom Coverdale led the Mike Davis coached Hoosiers to the Final Four while wearing the BB4.The BB4 gave birth to many more Shox silhouettes over the next decade however the technology has lent itself better to Nike running virtually eliminating the Shox basketball line."We actually wore the Foamposites before Penny ever wore them," recalls Simon. "Nike sent them to us during the Sweet 16, but I didn t like them.
I put them on in practice the day before and they were too slippery and I wouldn t wear them. Mike Bibby said, I don t care. These look too sweet and I m gonna play in them. I don t care if I slip every time down the floor, but we did all have them." Sports Fan JournalIf we were going to write the story of how the Nike Air Foamposite One debuted, it probably wouldn t include a bunch of college kids rejecting nike air force 1 them at first. Eventual Most Outstanding Player of the 1997 NCAA Tournament Miles Simon would not be slipping on them each time down the court and future NBA players like Michael Dickerson and Jason Terry would have ditched their Zoom Flight Fives for the highly experimental shoe. Our first peek at the shoes would have taken place during the championship game and they would have been on the feet of all five starters. And as they hoisted the trophy up in the air, we would have been treated to a shot of coach Lute Olson wearing a pair as well.
